Indoor and Outdoor Recreational Activities

Women often worry that weight training will make them look like “Hulk” while the truth if different – weight training will increase the lean muscle mass. It is one of the most effective ways to shape the whole body. That’s a good thing!

But, what if you hate going to a gym? Most of us will walk into a gym feeling overwhelmed – most of us don’t even know how to begin working out. Going to a gym also requires time – and it can be quite an expensive activity. Or, maybe you are bored doing the same routine and want to make exercising more interesting?

If you are not a gym person – you have other activities. The most important thing is to be active constantly. If you rest, make sure that that the rest periods don’t last for some months. Unless you really have a good excuse. “I don’t feel like exercising” or “I’m tired” are not real excuses.

Which sports activities can replace going to a gym? There are many. But here are some ideas that may help you choosing something that suits you.

Running

I don’t know about you, but this is my favorite activity! What I enjoy most about running is that it relaxes me. Running is an excellent way to release your frustrations in a healthy way. You have the ability to think about your ideas, problems or solutions. All you have to do is get dressed, put on your headphones and go outside – run by the river, in a park, at the sports field nearby or directly from your house if you don’t have that much time. However, running can be boring or hard for some people. Also, a lot of people complain about breathing problems, but that is something that you will learn over time, by exercising more. If running is not your thing, you will certainly like the second activity…

Walking

Many people think that walking is not that effective, but they are wrong. Walking is great! If you “really, really” don’t feel like exercising, go for a walk and spend some time outside. You can burn a lot of calories while walking – you can vary the speed, carry weights, walk uphill or just go for a regular walk with friends.

Roller Skating

This exercise works the glutes and legs as you power through movement. Roller skating is great for improving balance, coordination and agility. It is the perfect way to combine fitness with fun. The negative side of skating is the risk or the fear of falling – it’s just not for everyone.

Biking

Biking can be faster than walking, or even faster than other forms of transportation – especially if the traffic is a problem in your city. If your workplace is not that far from your home, you can use a bike to go to work – maybe you’ll have to wake up earlier, but, at least, you did something great for yourself. I don’t have to mention other health benefits that biking has. It’s also a great full family and friends activity.

Ice Skating

Ice skating has almost the same benefits as roller skating. If the ice rink is empty, you’ll enjoy even more – you’ll have the courage to try new movements and you won’t be afraid of hitting someone. While beginners will initially struggle to stay upright, balancing your body is not too difficult to master. If you tried roller skating, skating on ice is not that different.

Skiing and Snowboarding

I think I mentioned that running is my favorite activity. However, I prefer skiing even more. I think that is because I don’t have the opportunity to ski every day. Skiing is great for your body – you are burning a lot of calories. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced skier, you will be giving your body a good workout. Spending time in the snow is also fun, especially if you are going with your friends. If you are learning to ski, you will fall a lot – that’s not so bad, you will get used to it.

Home Workouts

The thing I like the most regarding exercising at home is that I don’t need to get ready or go to a certain place for having a great workout. Exercising is always accessible. You can find out more about home workout programs here. In addition to those, there are other interesting programs and workouts: Lisa-Marie, Brazil But Lift, Jilian Michels – 30-day shred, youtube videos etc. You can also invest in buying weights, ankle weights, dumbbells, barbells, mat or other equipment  – and build your gym. Pilates and Yoga exercises are great options, too. These type of workouts lengthen and stretch all the major muscle groups in the body. It improves flexibility, strength, balance and body awareness.

Dance Workouts

Dance workouts are remarkably healthy, and not just in a weight loss kind of way. Dancing can boost your brainpower and mood, improve your outlook and grow your social circle – even if you have no rhythm. There are no rules or special instructions – just play your favorite music on and dance, get sweat and enjoy.

Swimming

Swimming is a great full body workout for all ages. You’ll probably be able to keep going for a longer time swimming than if you were running. That’s because swimming is gentle on your joints and muscles. The water can also feel relaxing.

 

I hope that I motivated you with mentioned sports activities to choose at least one of them or try something new. Whatever you may choose, the most important thing is that it suits and entertain you.
